The final trailer has been released for August’s upcoming Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.Based on the French sci-fi comic Valèrian and Laureline, the film promises to be a big screen spectacle with the new trailer showing off the vibrant visuals and impressive settings in which the film will take place. Whilst showing fewer story details, the final trailer does give a look at some of the actions sequences we can look forward, including Valerian, the title character played by Dane DeHaan, blasting his way through a ship and into space. The film’s marketing seems similar to that of James Cameron’s wildly successful Avatar with the trailer making the point that it is a "3D Event" to be experienced in cinemas. Cara Delevinge and Clive Owen star alongside DeHaan as Agent Laureline, Valerian’s partner, and Commander Arün Flitt respectively. Singer Rhianna has also been cast as the character of Bubbles, who appeared briefly in previous trailers. The plot will follow space agent Valerian and his partner Agent Laureline as they seek out an ancient threat that seeks to destroy Alpha, a peaceful planet home to a thousand-different species. The film is a passion project for director Luc Besson, also responsible for Léon: The Professional and The Fifth Element, as he started writing the script for Valerian some ten years ago hoping that technology would catch up with his vision. Now, in 2017, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has been made possible and will hit cinemas on August 4th in the UK.
