My beauty New Year's resolutions for 2019

Share This Article:

Look, we all want to go to the gym more; we all want those 8 glasses of water a day, to cut down on booze, to swap coffee for green tea...but by February, it’s bust. New Year’s Resolutions are notoriously hard to keep, old habits die hard and all that. There are, however, a bunch of easy little things worth adding to the list.

Without further ado, here are the 2019 additions to my beauty routine that I want to wish into reality. Fingers crossed they make it past the first week of January.

I resolve to...

#1 - Clean my makeup brushes more often

More specifically, clean my brushes in between the vivid shades of eyeshadow that have started to be experimented with. The potions being created are not the intended colour, and they do NOT look good. It's also better to clean my brushes to avoid skin problems says Hrush Achemyan who's behind the Kardashians, Jenners, and Jennifer Lopez's beauty looks: "Most breakouts or clogged pores come from dirty tools".

#2 - Actually stick to the use-by dates on makeup

Apparently, we’re supposed to replace mascara every three months. Who can afford that? Who is making that a thing?

After some (extensive) digging, we did find a big enough list based on celebrity makeup expert Jamie Greenberg's insight. Check it out here.

#3 - Stop blending with my fingers

Let's hope this one comes naturally once I actually have some clean brushes to hand!

#4 - Invest in a decent beauty blender

It's time to start buying makeup sponges from somewhere that isn’t Primark, and reap the benefits!

#5 - Invest in a really fancy, decent anti-ageing eye serum

One of the first Cosmo articles - like this one - I ever read was about starting to use anti-ageing serums in your early twenties and I’ll be damned if I don’t follow that advice like it’s gospel.

#6 - Go back to basics with skincare

Stick to a simple skincare routine, without falling victim to all the spot creams that SWEAR they’ll fix you in mere moments of application. It’s all lies.

#7 - No more lazy lippy

Blot lipstick on tissue, not just random scraps of paper/leaflets/train tickets found lying around the bedroom.

#8 - Be more realistic with makeup purchases

Stop buying the insane, bold lip colours that will lie untouched in the bottom of my makeup bag for all of eternity.

#9 - Keep on top of nail care

Take off chipped nail varnish the second it’s ruined, instead of waiting for the slow decaying process over a series of weeks.

and last but not least...

#10 - Remember to take off makeup after a sesh

No matter if it’s 5am, no matter how drunk - get a wipe and get those panda eyes gone.
