The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards took place this week and saw some of the biggest names of the silver screen take to the red carpet in a huge array of outfits.  We've rounded up a few of our faves:

Yara Shahidi

End of the night

One day we might make a best-dressed list that doesn't feature Yara, but honestly given her track record I wouldn't hold your breath.  Her simple hair and makeup and the sleek silhouette of her Gucci x Jason Bolden gown allow the number's floral focus point to make a statement that doesn't overwhelm but certainly impresses.

Marsai Martin

There must be something in the water on the Black-ish set because Martin- who plays Shahidi's on-screen sister- hit the nail on the head with this icy ombré Viktor and Rolf tulle masterpiece; the full skirt is offset by the sharp v-neck and back, and her barely-there makeup and fun ponytail make sure the whole look is young enough for a teen but still on-trend enough for an adult-dominated event.

Gaten Matarazzo

The mustard velvet of Matarazzo's D&G jacket is the perfect transition piece fro summer to autumn, and this bold statement is left to do the talking by its more pared-back, monochrome accompaniments. The Converse trainers add a youthful kick (no pun intended) to the sharp suit and make for a look that could definitely be recreated for any number of those more official uni events.

Padma Lakshmi

You really can't go wrong with a fierce red statement dress.  And looking beautiful isn't the only statement this J. Mendel look makes; Lakshmi accessorised with a blue ACLU ribbon, and also noted that she wore this dress previously, proving that there's no need to constantly buy something new when you already have a pretty fabulous number just begging to be worn again.

Leslie Jones

It's a breath of fresh air to see a lady don a suit on a red carpet flooded with gowns, and this is only made better by the unicorn-esque choice of colour and luxurious silk.  Jones' Christian Siriano suit is everything we need in a look: sleek, unique, ombré, pastel, iridescent... don't mind if we do.

Lonnie Chavis

Emmy Awards Swag on  with my tv dad @miloanthonyventimiglia and my real dad @lonniechavis_sr [SWIPE LEFT]

Chavis puts people four times his age to shame with this slick monochrome Dsquared2 suit; the oversized bow-tie, black piping, and single button fastening stand out against the bright, crisp white jacket and shirt.  He gets bonus points for coordinating so well with onscreen dad Milo Ventimiglia, too.

Vanessa Kirby

Thank you so much @tomford

We loved her as the one-of-a-kind Princess Margaret in The Crown and Vanessa Kirby certainly brought some of that royal glamour stateside with this form-fitting Tom Ford dress.  The simplicity of both its shape and colour avoid being boring thanks to her voluminous, sweeping blonde tresses, statement black eyeliner, and glittering Chopard jewels *cue curtsy*.

Sadie Sink

A huge thank you to Molly, Rooney, Chrys, Lilly, Ryan, and Kayleen for making this look possible. My favorite yet

By embracing her fair skin and red hair and shunning an LA tan (but sticking to the city's penchant for veganism by wearing animal-free label Hiraeth), Sadie Sink's look is dazzling.  Her sleek white dress is amped up by petaled shoulder pads, and the toned down colour palette is brightened up by the sharpest of red lips.  Her character Max may be more suited to skateboards, but glamour certainly looks right at home on Sadie.
