Plastic. Cold, shiny, hard plastic. No, we’re not talking Regina George, plastic is the latest trend to grace your wardrobe.

The runways were full of vinyl this year - coats, trousers, jumpsuits, dresses right down to boots and bags. From classic clear macs at Chanel to ladylike floral trenches at Christopher Kane to bright green anoraks at Burberry your outerwear will most definitely be plastic.

And it’s not just your coats either. Calvin Klein showcased a daring and chic red vinyl dress and Ellery’s collection featured an uber cool pair of brown vinyl trousers and Balmain gave us ultimate glam inspo with their black vinyl jumpsuit.

Plastic coats

MSGM creates great coats and in their Spring Summer collection they designed a beautiful blue plastic one. The good news for us is there is an exact replica on ASOS, by Monki for £50.

This is the perfect coat for transitioning into Spring, and the light blue colour will work with practically every colour in your wardrobe.

Pair it with spring’s pastels - long pink dresses, lilac blouses or be brave and wear with a yellow mini skirt and a white shirt. This coat is also great for those days when you have no idea what to wear and just want to dress up the jeans and t-shirt combo.

Plastic trousers

Isabel Marant’s take on the vinyl look was to use it in a pair of fabulous green trousers and at Mango you can get a similar look for £35.99.

Wearing vinyl can be a tricky look to get right, but these trousers aren’t too tight and the paper bag waist and navy colour make them perfectly suitable for day wear.

Pair them with chunky knitwear - go for white or grey if you want a toned down look or for a more bolder appearance red or pink would be perfectly suited to these trousers.

Vinyl trench coat

There’s always that moment when you put together a great outfit, check outside, see that it’s raining and realise you’ve basically got to throw a coat on and hide your fabulous outfit, well not with this trend!

No longer confined to muddy festival fields - the clear vinyl trench is a key item for Spring Summer 18, with Karl Lagerfeld's featuring them on many of the models in the Chanel show.

You can cover up, stay warm and dry and still showcase your style and at Topshop you can find one for £65.

The white edging and buttons update it from a simple rain mac to a wardrobe essential, style it with a big belt cinched in at the waist to make it more fashion forward. This coat works well showcasing any outfit, so make sure it’s your best!

Vinyl bags

Accessories are a great way to dip into this trend and the vinyl bag currently taking over your instagram feed is from Staud clothing.

Now whilst this plastic bag costs a tad more than 5p, Zara have two great alternatives for £29.99.

The larger rectangular striped bag is perfect for everyday use and a great way to update a simple outfit and you definitely can’t go on holiday without the smaller tan vinyl bag - it’s just the right size to fit your sun cream, souvenirs and cocktail money.

Check back in a couple of weeks for more tips on how to wear the latest trend without breaking the bank!
