Live Fashion raised awareness of AIDS with its latest show

On Saturday 10th June, the 13th show in the Live Fashion series took to the streets of Soho to raise awareness of AIDS.

In this year's Men's Fashion Week, the show used fashion to send a powerful message.

Live Fashion was started by Dan Harley after being inspired by the energy of the crowds at the Fendi ft Karl Lagerfeld show during Milan Fashion Week in 2012. Recognising the potential power of social media to make the Fashion Week experience more immediate and interactive, Harley decided to start staging fashion shows in the street.

After being concerned that he had been exposed to HIV earlier this year and gaining an insight into the realities of HIV-positive life, impacted by antiretroviral drugs and stigma, Harley has devoted the 13th show of the series to AIDS awareness.

Using the O+ collection by designer Jacob Alexander, whose work focuses on breaking down the stigma attached to HIV, the show took to the streets of Soho to share the important message.

Award-winning sexual health and HIV clinic 56 Dean St. supplied free condoms that were distributed during the show, and the team from Youth Stop AIDS provided banners and leaflets about their hopes to end AIDS by 2030.

Body painters Mimmi Harding and Lucy Close painted audience members during the Aids Awareness Show, whilst Kala Kala drove slowly along Old Compton Street and up Dean St to Soho Square Gardens.

The fashion show was vibrant, informative and interactive, using Alexander's brilliant O+ collection to help raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and further work towards breaking down the stigma.
