After what seems like forever Lady Gaga – or, better known to her parents as Stefani Germanotta – is back. But do you recognise her?

To her affectionaly termed Little Monsters' delight, Gaga has stepped back into public consciousness: with her fifth album Joanne set to drop on October 21st.

Gaga has of course already released two singles from her new album, Million Reasons and lead track Perfect Illusion, both of which seem to hint at a more subdued and stripped back sound than previous albums, (especially compared to previous solo album ARTPOP), with Gaga decidedly withdrawing from the customary vocal autotuning we are so used to.

But Gaga's sound is not the only thing to be toned down - her fashion has taken a drastic turn towards, dare we say it? - normal.

Whether you class yourself as one of Gaga's Little Monsters or not, you will doubtless be able to recall more of this excentric popstars iconic outfits  – meat dress, telephone, the infamous egg - than you can name her singles. But that it seems is set to change, as the songstress takes to adopting a badass uniform of short shorts, crop tops, sunnies, leather and notably conservative black ankle boots.

It might be October, but Gaga seems intent on working this particular ensemble to the max (either that or she's exhausted all wardrobe inspiration), wearing it everywhere from the Perfect Illusion video to nights out and gigs.

A bold outfit for the average artist perhaps, but this change in attire seems almost conservative compared to previous ensembles. That said, now that we think about it, perhaps Germanotta has been edging towards this more ‘normal’ look for a while.

Cast your mind back to 2014, around the time the infamous Gaga started working with on collaborative album Cheek to Cheek alongside Tony Bennett. Certainly, it was out with the meat, and in with old Hollywood glamour, with this look elegant enough to make the most seasoned red carpet royalty envious.

Who knows why Gaga has brought her wardrobe back down to earth? Maybe she’s grown up, perhaps she’s trying to reinvent herself after the debated underperformance of ARTPOP, or maybe she’s merely taking a break from shocking the fashion stratosphere.

Anyway, whatever the reason, the hype around Joanne - an album dedicated to the singer's late aunt - is standing proof that Gaga still holds the power to attract all eyes (and ears) no matter what she's wearing. I mean, whether or not you prefer her chic minimalist new look; you can't deny Gaga has got serious style.
