The Gala Award Show was a spectacular end to Graduate Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary, attended by some of the biggest names in fashion. including Dame Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Bailey and Julien Macdonald.
(Hazel Symons receiving her award from Christopher Bailey)The winner of the particularly prestigious Christopher Bailey Gold Award was Hazel Symons from De Montford University. Symons was recognised by the judging panel for her highly innovative designs and she received a prize of £10,000. Her graduate collection attached pieces of fabric with bolts instead of seams, allowing the garments’ wearers to transform and personalise the clothing. Additionally, in celebration of its 25th anniversary, Graduate Fashion Week presented Genevive Devine from Norhumbria University with the firstTu at Sainsbury’s Scholarship Award. Devine was chosen by the judges for the “raw and individual creativity” of her designs, and she will spend a year working on the Tu at Sainsbury’s SS17 collection with mentoring from Holly Fulton.
