Barbie has been a style icon for over 50 years, so it makes perfect sense that her next look would be modelled on one of the most influential individuals of the fashion world – and who better than the one and only Karl Lagerfeld? Yes, the Chanel creative director is soon to be immortalised in Barbie form, after being invited by Mattel to collaborate on a design for a collector’s edition doll which, naturally, will echo Lagerfeld’s own signature style, right down to the ponytail. Barbie Lagerfeld’s sharp black blazer, crisp white high-collared men’s shirt, black satin tie and fitted black jeans will be accessorised with those distinctive black fingerless gloves, black boots and a black leather clutch with metallic accents (see the illustration here). Will she be cooler than her older sister, 2009’s 50th Anniversary Barbie, styled in Chanel by Lagerfeld himself?
