The mythical reining princess of Wakanda and possible soon-to-be Black Panther, Shuri, is getting her own Marvel comic book spin-off in October 2018.

The comic book series is set to be written by American author Nnedi Okorafor and illustrated by Hawkeye artist Leonardo Romero.  It will follow Shuri grappling between her adoration for technology development and her nation’s need for a figurehead.  Pitting her passion against her duty, the comic book series is set to be a brilliant bildungsroman.

The comics are due to follow from author Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther series - where T’Challa has travelled to space in order to explore the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.

With T’Challa’s disappearance, the nation looks to his witty and sarcastic sister, Shuri to lead them to victory and be crowned reigning monarch.  A firm Black Panther fan’s favourite character, Shuri’s return and her new Marvel comic series are highly-anticipated.

The comic’s author, Okorafor, is already well-accustomed to both producing stunning literature and the Marvel Universe itself.  She has previously won the prestigious Sole Soyinka Prize for literature, and has contributed to the bi-weekly series, Black Panther: Long Live the King.

Speaking via email to online women’s magazine, Bustle, Okorafor said that she adores the character of Shuri, due to her being “an African young woman with a genius level intelligence who is obsessed with technology and has travelled spiritually so far into the past that she’s seen Wakanda before it was Wakanda.”

Wakanda forever - it is now Shuri’s time to come-of-age and shine.  October cannot come quicker.
