The Dance Attic at Rehearsal Studios is filled with ladies in fishnet stockings, with black sexy tops and luxurious red lips. Even a couple of guys
come to join the Chicago workshop. In front stands a tall, blonde girl.
OMG So Stagey is a dance workshop that specializes in musical dance for everyone.
AJ have O'niell is the front man and has been working in the industry for over 15 years. As Chicago is coming back to the Westend, OMG So Stagey is doing a workshop on the exact choreography from “All that Jazz”, the sassy Fossé number that is essential to the musical.
The class is a mix of dancers preparing for auditions, actors, and people that just want to enjoy three lovely sweaty hours of dancing and being fabulous.
AJ O'niell originally trained to be a psychologist, but after a bike accident left him unable to read without getting migraines, he left college and went to Dublin to start his dance career.
After three years at Laine Theatre Arts, he went straight to the Westend where he became part of Chicago, dancing swing and covering two lead roles. His other shows include The Last 5 Years, Songs for a New World, Pirates of Penzance and A Man of No Importance.
Previously, AJ has done a Legally Blonde Workshop as part of OMG So Stagey.
“I started doing the workshops for OMG So Stagey because I loved Legally Blonde and wanted an excuse to stage some of it. I have been teaching musical theatre workshops for fifteen years but never did it under one banner. I realized recently that I kept going to other countries to teach them, but had never made an effort to do them at home in London, and I was so excited to share them with my friends and other enthusiasts.”
The Chicago workshop had everyone laughing, sweating, and feeling sexy. The steps were not easy, but with some sass, fun, and good teaching, everyone caught up.
Next Tuesday, OMG So Stagey are offering another Fosse master class, based Chicago, at Pineapple dance studios.
