Love it or loathe it, there are certain aspects of Christmas that no one should deny themselves
If nothing else, Christmas is a time to add a little bit of luxury and sparkle to your usual day, which would explain why there are plenty of us who start the festive celebrations as soon as the Halloween decorations are down.
Everyone’s just a little bit more cheery at Christmas time, but if you’re not quite there yet, try indulging yourself in this list of Christmas activities:
Number 1: Jumpers
It’s winter and it’s cold, but put down the Beechams and honey & lemon and embrace it. There’s nothing better than putting on a big baggy jumper no matter the occasion.
Lecture? Jumper. Date? Jumper. Night out? Jumper. Yep; a jumper is acceptable on a night out so long as it dons flashing lights or jingle bells.
Number 2: Markets
Christmas markets, originating in Germany, are now popping up in every city. It not only makes for a perfect evening with friends, it can also be an excuse to hop on a train and explore somewhere new.
You can pick up a Christmas tree bauble for your Granny, or you could just eat masses of those huge German hot dogs whilst wandering through the stalls. Either way, it's sure to be a great time out.
Number 3: Giving
You have to admit that the feeling you get from giving is amazing! It almost matches the level of feels you got from John Lewis’ 2015 advert with the man on the moon.
It doesn’t have to be a huge expensive gesture for a loved one, it could be an act of kindness for a stranger or a homemade card for an elderly neighbour. It’s simple, but it works.
Number 4: Festive drinks
Christmas, for me, means one thing: Baileys. Baileys in a coffee, in a hot chocolate, I mean, Baileys on its own would suffice.
But to each their own! Treat yourself to a cup of mulled wine or spice up your life with a dash of Christmas cheer in your regular morning coffee.
Number 5: Films
For this one, I’d suggest you set up your tablet with a YouTube clip of a burning log fire and wrap up with an aforementioned festive drink.
Whether it’s a classic like Home Alone, a rom-com like Love Actually, or something a little different like The Nightmare Before Christmas; Christmas films offer the perfect way to get your heart filling with Christmas cheer.
Number 6: Pyjamas
Perhaps the most important aspect of any cosy night in, a snuggly pair of pyjamas. After all, nothing brings people together more than matching Christmas PJs.
Supermarkets, high street shops and online sites all have festive pyjamas with which to tempt you. I also happen to know that there are various online brands which will provide you with a matching pair of pyjamas for you and the family dog.
Number 7: Make your own traditions
If none of the above has quite got your tummy tingling at the thought of Christmas day, all is not lost. Christmas is just about spending time with your family and friends, doing what you enjoy and putting up with each other for the sake of a jolly holiday.
